WASHINGTON — Walmart and its Indian subsidiary are set to launch the first ever women’s apparel line in the country.
The first product is the Womenswear Limited, which is priced at $39.99.
Walmart spokeswoman Stephanie Wasser said the product is intended to give women a “comfortable choice in the marketplace” and will have a launch window in India next week.
The line will feature a selection of cotton, silk, wool and other products.
The Womanswear Limited is part of Wal-Mart’s Indian operations and is being launched at Wal-Marts stores and other retail outlets across the country to promote the brand and its business.
Walmart has partnered with Indian clothing brand Hani, which sells similar products in the United States, India and Bangladesh, as well as other countries around the world.
Hani has also partnered with Hani India to expand the Wombats India product range, said Hani’s co-founder Anupam Naidu.
Wal-mart will sell the first two Womenwear Limited products in India.
Wal-Mart has more than 1,400 stores in India, including Wal- Mart India, and plans to expand its presence in the region.
