Why the burberry scarf is so popular among college students

As the school year nears, students are starting to wear their signature burberrys.
But for the past few years, the scarves have been worn in the fashion of a casual fashion accessory, one with little to no marketing effort.
“It’s not a fashion accessory,” said Lauren Haddad, a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
“It’s just a scarf that I like to wear.”
Harley Miller, a senior at the Southern California College of the Arts, wore her Burberry scarf on a recent night, just to show off.
The school had recently renamed its annual Fall Winter Festival after the school’s namesake, and Miller was planning on wearing the scarf during her costume contest.
“I’ve never really had a scarf of my own, but I was thinking of wearing a scarf,” Miller said.
“I think it’s really cool to see people embrace the look of fashion.”
While most students wear the scarf at home, some choose to wear it at school, or even in a classroom setting.
“When I wear it, it’s kind of like an accessory, so I like it to be a bit more casual,” said Emily Filippi, a freshman at the Florida Institute of Technology.
“But I do like it because it’s a scarf.”
Some students are wearing the burbrights for fun, like senior J.B. Johnson.
The freshman said wearing a burberry in a dress is more comfortable than wearing a traditional scarf.
“It is something I really enjoy, because it is a scarf, it is so versatile,” Johnson said.
“The thing I love about wearing a hoodie and a hoody is that you don’t have to wear your shirt all the time, you can go outside and wear it.
It just kind of makes you feel like you have a cape and hood, so it’s like a cape you don and you’re comfortable.”
Johnson, who grew up in Miami, wears the scarf as a casual accessory, but she also said it is an opportunity to be creative.
“If you want to do something different, it makes it really cool,” she said.
For Filippis, the most popular thing about wearing the scarf at school is getting to wear a hat that has a burr on it.
“Sometimes I wear the hat and then I go back and wear the scarfs, and sometimes I have a hood, and I get to wear that hat,” she explained.
While some students say they wear the burbiers in the office, others say they’re happy to just wear them out with friends or family.
“A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, you’re not going to wear this to school?'” said sophomore Emily Sussman.
“We like to be able to wear them around school and to the gym.”
“We just think they look good,” said freshman J.D. Daugherty.
